Surrender seems like a negative word in most contexts — like giving up …or admitting defeat. But, when it comes to surrender in the biblical sense — surrender is freedom! It’s the sweet release of all that weighs us down to a God we can trust. Surrendering the things that we stress about the most (like our size or shape) is hard! But, that’s why we’re praying for God’s help. We can’t surrender this on our own. It’s too fragile, too important, too much. Yet, Jesus asks us to lay our burdens down–and that’s what we’ll pray for today. I hope you’ll pray with me and tell a friend if you’re enjoying this series!
English Standard Version – Hebrews 12:1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Hi Heather,
I’m a fairly new listener. I enjoy your podcasts, and I plan to continue to listen to them. I am really enjoying your 30 days of prayer. Day 5 was so relavent for me. I never thought at age 62, that I would be faced with an eating disorder. When Keto came out, I thought I would try it, that escalated into following an app to track my food and weight loss, then it became an obsession. Being 5’7 and 100 lbs. scared my family. I knew I looked awful, but I liked the idea of wearing smaller clothes. I believe it was God’s leading that I join a recovery program. I am working with a team from the Emily Program, I have a wonderful counselor and dietician who have been very patient with me. I’m up to 119 but it has been hard. I can say that I definitely feel better physically. Surrender is so important to me, because I want to be in control.
I just wanted to share with you as someone who even as a senior adult, battles an eating disorder.
Elaine, thank you so much for sharing that story. Would it be okay if I read it on the podcast (without your name and some of the details, of course)? I know there are so many women out there in the same place… Praying that God will continue to work in your recovery process and set you free from eating disorder bondage. And know that many of the women I hear from are also over 60. You are not alone. Hugs and grace! Heather
