Does the thought of an intense aerobics class or run around the block intimidate you? I have good news for you–walking is exercise too!
Now, hear me when I say that it takes more than the walk from the couch to fridge to count as daily exercise. But, if the thought of “working out” sound daunting, know that just adding a twenty minute walk to your routine, five times a week can be a great start to a healthier lifestyle.
My goal at Compared to Who? is to encourage you to not just focus on getting your body healthy, but to turn your heart and mind towards our Savior. I sincerely believe that whatever weight loss or health goals you have will be aided by a discipline that prioritizes time spent reading the Bible, praying, and focusing on just how much God loves you.
For this reason, we should view our workout time as a worship time. Let’s get real, most of us don’t have hours and hours of free time, each day, that we get to spend alone. So, if you can find twenty to thirty minutes to take a brisk walk alone, you might as well make the most of it!
Here are some of my favorite Christian songs with a great tempo for brisk walking. If you are able and want a little bit more of a challenge (or if you are doing a “Couch to 5K” type program), consider adding little bits of jogging or running during the chorus of each song. This type of interval training is great for weight loss and a good way to build up endurance if you aren’t used to running.
